Ready for Acito’s Attack

February 29, 2008 10:14 pm

I got the galleys for Marc Acito’s new book Attack of the Theater People in the mail and I just HAD to share the novel’s campy cover art. This new work of semi-autobiographical fiction (which is out April 22 on Broadway Books) from the author of How I Paid for College: A Novel of Sex, Theft, Friendship and Musical Theater is all about a struggling student of theater trying to make it in 1980s Manhattan. I’m going to start devouring the book this weekend, but I’ve already judged it by its cover and I love it—I’ll let you know how the inside is!

Photo Tease: Lipstick Ladies

February 28, 2008 7:55 pm

Xanadu leading lady Kerry Butler had a friend from TV-land backstage at the show last night. As you may already know, Kerry is currently featured on Lipstick Jungle as a scheming Eve Harrington of the fashion world by the name of Reese. Lindsay Price plays Victory, her fashion designer boss/victim. Despite their onscreen soap shenanigans, the gal pals get along great, as witnessed above! Photo by Bruce Glikas for Broadway.com

Who’s the CD chomper?

None other than comedy legend Mel Brooks, getting down and dirty with fans for a CD signign and meet-and-greet after yesterday’s matinee of Young Frankenstein! Photos by Bruce Glikas for Broadway.com

A joyous new original cast recording of The Little Mermaid is now in stores. The cast gathered at World of Disney yesterday to meet their fans—little and littler for a short concert and CD signing. Photos by Bruce Glikas for Broadway.com

The Photo About the Naked Guy

February 26, 2008 5:01 pm

Grey’s Anatomy star Sara Ramirez caught Emerging Artists Theater’s off-Broadway comedy The Play About the Naked Guy last night at Baruch Performing Arts Center and just had to get up close and personal with the titular star (Dan Amboyer) afterward. Can you blame her? Photo by Bruce Glikas for Broadway.com

Video Extra: Laughter & Letts

1:25 pm

Before every critic in the Western Hemisphere was lauding his son Tracy Letts‘ play August: Osage County as the second coming of Broadway drama, Dennis Letts was proudly doing it himself. The senior Letts, who died on Friday after a short battle with cancer, was such a joy to talk to at the press event that marked the first day of New York rehearsals for the show that I decided to share his uncut interview here. Nothing I like better than watching him laugh and laugh and laugh while talking about how f-ed up the family in the show is. Check it out!

Broadway Babies at the Oscars

February 25, 2008 2:00 am

This year’s Oscar ceremoy wasn’t really big night for Broadway-themed films or stage talents (although Broadway producer Scott Rudin did land his first statue for Best Picture for No Country for Old Men and Sweeney Todd did at least win for its art direction!). Still, there were a few red carpet moments that I thought might be of interest to my readers. So enjoy! Photos by Dave Edwards/DailyCeleb.com

Amy Ryan, celebrating her first Oscar nomination for Gone Baby Gone, will probably be too busy to come back round these parts for a while.

Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth made a splash on the telecast, singing Enchanted’s “That’s How You Know.”

Not exactly a theater person yet, but I can dream, no? French star Marion Cotillard, who won for her brilliant work in La Vie en Rose, is expected to play Luisa opposite fellow winner Javier Bardem in Rob Marshall’s Nine movie. Nice cast, Rob!

Photo Tease: Triumphant Sunday

February 22, 2008 7:35 pm

The triumphant Sunday in the Park with George revival that I first fell in love with at the tiny Chocolate Factory of London has arrived on Broadway amidst a flurry of rave reviews. Here’s a sneak peek at next week’s Photo Op of the big night! Photos by Bruce Glikas for Broadway.com

Welcome to Broadway, Jenna Russell and Daniel Evans!

Watch This: Kelli’s Cut

February 20, 2008 7:30 pm

Kelli O’Hara went through a traumatic experience this morning–and we caught it all on video! Actually, the rising star simply chopped off her locks for the role of Nellie in the upcoming South Pacific. But when you’re a blonde babe like her, you gotta look out for your assets! Happily, haircutter-to-the-stars John Barrett did a bang-up job. Want to see the results? Watch the video!

Original Spring Awakening cast member Lauren Pritchard left the tight-knit company on Sunday, with an eye towards making an eagerly-awaited album. Here’s a sneak peek at her final bows at the Eugene O’Neill. Photos by Bruce Glikas for Broadway.com

Final bow.

Hugs with boyfriend Skylar Astin backstage.

Peace out!
